Key duties of the role:

  • To develop a faculty culture that is committed to improvement through raising achievement and high aspirations.

  • To encourage all members of staff to recognise and fulfil their statutory responsibilities to students with SEND.

  • To ensure effective systems are in place for identifying, assessing and monitoring progress of students.

  • To be the lead ‘expert’ for teachers and support staff to seek advice on best practice with SEND students.

  • To lead self-evaluation and subsequent development planning across the faculty in line with school procedures.

  • To implement strategies to improve the teaching of all staff within the faculty and school-wide, including the sharing of best practice.

  • To provide leadership by coaching, mentoring and motivating staff to build a culture of commitment, high standards and drive for success.

  • To ensure assessment data is recorded, analysed and used effectively to drive improved student outcomes across the faculty.

  • To provide strategic leadership of financial and material resources, including maintenance of the agreed budget.

  • To use relevant school, local and national data to inform targets for development and further improvement for individuals and groups of students.

  • To ensure behaviour & safety across the faculty is conducive to effective learning.

  • To promote and contribute to enrichment and extension activities within the faculty.

  • To actively contribute to the leadership of all internal and external reviews, including any Ofsted inspections.

  • To contribute effectively to school governance through effective communication and attendance at meetings as requested.

This role will involve contact with children and the post holder will be engaged in regulated activity relevant to children and will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check before appointment is confirmed. We will only submit a DBS application to the relevant disclosure service when a position is accepted.

The John of Gaunt School is large and dynamic school with approximately 1270 students on roll. We are currently a single Academy and actively promote collaboration with our feeder primary schools through the Trowbridge Schools’ Social Enterprise - Collaborative Schools Ltd and the West Wiltshire Alliance; a partnership of 8 secondary schools and Wiltshire College. Our school roll is rising significantly each year and our reputation has accelerated over the last two years. We are now at the forefront educational practice and we are delighted that our recent changes are accelerating the progress of our students. We are part Equa Multi Academy Trust.
