Update: After being teased last month, the EARLS COLLECTION x ASICS GT-2160 “Ngāwari” is finally set to touch down on shelves. The Māori culture-inspired sneaker will first be made available on February 11 at 2am EST via a raffle hosted by EARLS COLLECTION. From there, select global retailers such as HBX are scheduled to launch the pair on February 23. Enjoy a closer look at the pair above and for a complete breakdown of its design, review our initial coverage below.
Original Story: With 2024 underway, ASICS has spared no time in bringing its GT-2160 silhouette back into the conversation as a current hit in the sneaker space. Its 2023 campaign with the sneaker included sought-after collaborations with the likes of GALLERY DEPT. and Above the Clouds. While there’s more to come from Above the Clouds on the GT-2160, ASICS has tapped another Australian collaborator to rework the shoe — EARLS COLLECTION. Founded in 2018 by Lewi Brown, the label has established itself as a go-to for elevated takes on sportswear heritage.
Connecting on the GT-2160, Brown dedicated the design to his late father by looking to their favorite seafood dish — pāua — to inform the sockliner’s design, nodding to the shell of the vividly-colored sea snails. As for the rest of the shoe, its brief preview reveals an off-white, brown and teal color composition. A loose gauge mesh and suede are visible at the upper as EARLS COLLECTION branding can be spotted at the heel’s side.
At the time of writing, neither EARLS COLLECTION nor ASICS have confirmed a release date for their collaborative GT-2160. Stay tuned for updates, including official imagery, as its release is said to be taking place in “Early 2024,” likely via EARLS COLLECTION, ASICS and select retailers.
